Beyond Academics

So, here you are!
You have been researching curriculum and learning about learning personalities and all that awesome stuff.
You are pumped. Or, a little intimidated. Maybe both?
Whatever you may be feeling, you are on the right track. Working hard to be the best parent you can be to your child.

But, wait a minute. Is there more you should be teaching your child than just reading, math, history and science?
Have you missed anything?

That is a great question. Because, yes, there is more to your child than what they can and should learn academically. You want them to grow up into a mature adult. I mean, you probably even want them to be a good person.
At least, I think most parents want their children to be moral individuals.
Speaking personally, I do not want my children to be murderers, thieves, liars...stuff like that.
If you do not have any preference either way, then just do not worry about. They will just become exactly like their human nature dictates. (Okay, remember I said this blog was SARCASTIC. Please do not take this literally. 😆)

Beyond academics there are aspects of how your children will turn out that you want to preside over.
Things like Moral Character, Worldview, Good Citizenship, and Financial Stability.
Now, of course, you can teach them everything perfectly and they may still grow up to be immoral, messed up transients. But, I would argue that parents who devote time and resources to develop wise children, generally achieve that goal. It takes work. And it requires both parent and child exist in a loving, mutually respectful relationship.

Okay, that sounds sappy and impossible. Yeah, it totally feels like that most days. I mean my 5 daughters are running around like maniacs right now as I write this very sentence!
But, parenting is a marathon, not a sprint. One bad day, or week, or even year is NOT the sum total of your efforts. It is a lifetime of good efforts, preparation and a willingness (talking to you mom and dad) to be humble and to put aside your pride in favor of the desired prize:
A child who has grown into a wise, moral, loving adult.

What do I mean by each of those categories?
Well, lucky you, I have articles and suggestions prepared for all four!!
