Mathematics

My least favorite subject...

Look, I respect mathematics as much as the next gal. And, I can totally do math up to college level. But, that in no way means I like it. I really do not like it.
And, now that I am having to teach it to children who at times also don't like it, my love for it has not grown.
All of that being said, math is an essential, foundational skill for the rest of your child's life.
Along with reading, math helps to form the skills of deductive reasoning and critical thinking.
Unless you want your child to be a mindless drone (and I am not pointing any fingers, here, because some people out there want your children to be mindless drones) than TEACH THEM SOLID READING AND MATH SKILLS!!!
I am so sorry to raise my voice, but apparently teaching these two skills has become completely irrelevant in certain educational settings.
(cough, cough...government schools...cough)

Math is definitely important, now what?

As I have said elsewhere, before diving head first into curriculum, consider your learning style and your child's learning style. Math is a hard subject, try and get as much information as possible about what it is going to cover and in what format to help your child stay engaged.
